Trace Basement Systems Become Licensed Installers

The Trace Basement Systems team, who are now Licensed Installers of ADD Waterproofing.

Since 1974, Trace have worked on many thousands of properties in the UK and have particularly specialised in basement waterproofing design and installation in both existing and new-build properties since 1998. Experts in their field, Trace pioneered the use of drainage channels in association with cavity drain membrane systems and are recognised as leaders in their field. It is not surprising, therefore, that they are leading the way into the next generation of specialist waterproofing by acquiring an ADD Waterproofing license.

It is now recognised that when basements are to be used for living or working accommodation, making the environment dry is not the only issue to take into consideration. In order to create a safe, habitable space control measures should also be installed to deal with the potential presence of radon gas.

ADD Waterproofing was developed to deal with both issues in one unique system.

Traditional methods of controlling radon gas in above-ground situations would be in direct conflict with a waterproofing system if they were to be used in a basement. ADD Waterproofing uses a unique combination of cavity drain membranes and air management to overcome this difficulty and supply a fully waterproof system which manages any radon gas safely away from the property. In addition to ensuring the basement is protected from radon entry, ADD Waterproofing also ensures that the gas is not simply displaced to the ground floor accommodation.

Managing Director of Trace Basement Systems, George Hockey, said, ?As a Company, we have been receiving significantly more enquiries where radon gas needs to be taken into consideration in the design and installation of waterproofing, particularly since the publication of BS8102:2009, the revised Code of Practice for waterproofing.

Director, James Hockey commented that by becoming Licensed Installers, Trace have gained access to the best technical resource on radon control in basements through the developers of ADD Waterproofing.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can build up inside properties. Exposure to high or moderate concentrations of the gas is a major threat to an occupant?s health, with over 2000 deaths from lung cancer in the UK each year attributed to this. The Health Protection Agency advises that basements are particularly susceptible to containing high concentrations of the gas, as there is a larger surface area in contact with the earth through which the gas can permeate into the building.
